In-house genetics

The History of In House Genetics

In House Genetics originates from the U.S. state of Washington and has been publicly documented in the international grower and breeder scene since at least the mid-2010s.

Unlike large commercial seed banks, there is no heavily marketed corporate story behind In House. The brand became known primarily for its genetics. Growers encountered In House Genetics through seed drops, forums, grow journals, and later increasingly through other breeders' strains in whose family trees IHG genetics appeared.

This is exactly how the brand's reputation developed.

Instead of pursuing a completely new genetic direction every year, In House Genetics built entire families around selected parent plants. Platinum, in particular, developed into a fundamental building block of the breeding program.

Later, Slurricane was added as another line that would go on to have an influence on modern cannabis genetics far beyond its own catalog.

Platinum – the genetic foundation of In House Genetics

One of the most important plants in the history of In House Genetics is Platinum.

The line traces back to UW Hashplant × Permafrost. As such, Platinum is not based on the now-ubiquitous world of Cookies, Gelato, or Runtz, but rather on an older and significantly more independent genetic foundation.

Platinum became especially definitive due to its strong trichome production and its ability to pass this trait on in crosses.

From this genetic base, an entire family of In-House strains emerged. These include Platinum Kush Breath, Platinum Gorilla, Platinum Dosi, Platinum Garlic, Platinum Jelly, Platinum Scout, Platinum Valley, Platinum Punch, Platinum Zushi, Platinum Oreoz, and numerous other lines.

The term "Platinum" is therefore much more than just an attractive strain name at In House Genetics. It describes one of the central genetic axes of the entire breeding program.

Breeding philosophy & genetics

The breeding philosophy of In House Genetics can be summarized well by a motto previously used by the brand: Quality over Quantity – Land of the Frost.

Trichomes and resin play an extraordinarily large role at In House Genetics. Many strains are known for a very heavy resin coating, high-contrast colors, and visually striking flowers.

However, it is not just about aesthetics. In House works with recurring parent lines and develops them further through S1 selections, backcrosses, new versions, and targeted phenotypes.

Designations such as S1, BX, IX, V2, or #7 are therefore not arbitrary additions in the product range. They often directly show how a line was created or further developed.

The combination of their own Platinum genetics and modern U.S. lines from the fields of OGKB, Do-Si-Dos, Mendo Breath, Purple Punch, Gelato, GMO, Gorilla Glue, Z, Kush, and Cookies is particularly characteristic.

This created a genetic world that remains modern while being clearly recognizable as In House Genetics.

Slurricane – the signature strain of In House Genetics

Slurricane is likely the best-known strain from In House Genetics.

The genetics combine Do-Si-Dos with Purple Punch. This brings together OGKB and Cookies influences with the grape, berry, and purple-oriented world of Purple Punch.

Different phenotypes were selected from the original population. Slurricane #7 became particularly well-known, from which an S1 line was later developed.

Slurricane subsequently became an important breeding parent itself. Numerous In-House strains as well as genetics from other breeders carry Slurricane in their family tree.

Thus, the variety has long been more than just a successful individual strain. Today, Slurricane is a complete genetic family within modern U.S. cannabis genetics.

Platinum Kush Breath – two IHG worlds collide

Platinum Kush Breath is one of the strains that explains the In House Genetics signature particularly well.

Here, their own Platinum line meets OGKB v2.1. This combines the strong resin and frost side of Platinum with the world of Cookies and Kush Breath.

Platinum Kush Breath developed into an important line itself and was later continued in numerous variants and crosses.

These include, among others, Platinum Kush Breath Remix, various Platinum Kush Breath crosses, and further developed Breath lines.

The variety shows particularly well how In House Genetics operates: A successful genetic building block is not abandoned after a single release, but is instead further developed over years and carried in different directions.

Sugar Cane – Platinum meets Slurricane

Sugar Cane directly combines two of the breeder's most important lines: Platinum × Slurricane.

This brings together the strong trichome production and structure of Platinum with the fruity-dark Slurricane family.

Sugar Cane developed into one of the more well-known In-House strains and also became the basis for further lines such as Deluxe Sugar Cane, Sugar Cane V2, and later Sugar Cane variants.

Sugar Cane, in particular, shows how strongly the assortment is interconnected. Many seemingly different In-House strains can ultimately be traced back to the same carefully reused parent lines.

Jelly Breath, Dolato, and the Breath family

In addition to Platinum and Slurricane, the Breath family is one of the important genetic areas for In House Genetics.

Jelly Breath connects Mendo Breath with Do-Si-Dos and was later released as, among other things, Jelly Breath S1. The line became the starting point for further Jelly crosses such as Platinum Jelly or Jelly Sickle.

Dolato, on the other hand, combines Do-Si-Dos with Gelato #41. This variety shows a different interpretation of the same Do-Si-Dos base and combines it with the creamy-sweet world of Gelato.

This makes it clear how In House Genetics works: Certain parent lines appear again and again, but are combined with different partners and subsequently selected further.

Black Cherry Punch and the purple side of In House Genetics

Black Cherry Punch is also one of the breeder's well-known works.

The variety combines Black Cherry Pie with Purple Punch and represents the darker fruit, cherry, berry, and purple profiles more strongly.

Together with Slurricane, Black Cherry Punch demonstrates the importance of Purple Punch within certain early IHG lines. At the same time, In House Genetics developed its own selection lines from these foundations, which in turn were later used for further crosses.

As a result, the brand possesses a significantly fruitier, color-intensive side in addition to the frosty Platinum DNA.

Well-known In House Genetics strains

The catalog of In House Genetics has become very large over the years. Among the most important and well-known varieties are Slurricane, Slurricane #7 S1, Platinum, Platinum Kush Breath, Platinum Kush Breath Remix, Sugar Cane, Jelly Breath, Jelly Breath S1, Dolato, Black Cherry Punch, Platinum Gorilla, Platinum Garlic, Platinum Jelly, Terple, Bananacane, Deluxe Sugar Cane, Garlicane, JMO, Forbidos, and Zurple Punch BX.

Newer generations continue this signature with lines such as Platinum Zushi, Divine Zushi, Midori 44, Permanent Zushi, Platinum IX, and other modern crosses.

The catalog is thus continuously evolving without completely abandoning its original genetic axes.

S1, BX, and numbered phenotypes at In House Genetics

The way In House Genetics makes its breeding work directly visible in the strain names is striking.

An addition like S1 stands for selfing a selected plant. This allows a special clone to be continued in seed form. Examples include Slurricane #7 S1, Jelly Breath S1, or Dolato S1.

BX denotes a backcross to a specific parent line. Terms such as V2 or Remix, on the other hand, stand for further developed or newly constructed versions of existing genetics.

Numbers like #7 or #44 designate specifically selected individual plants from a phenotype hunt.

This systematic approach gives the assortment an unusually comprehensible structure and makes it clear that many releases are connected to one another.

Reputation in the grow community

In House Genetics possesses an extraordinarily large community presence for a relatively small U.S. breeder.

For years, there have been extensive threads and grow journals regarding IHG genetics. On GrowDiaries, there are hundreds of documented grows and harvests, especially of Slurricane, Sugar Cane, Jelly Breath, Platinum Kush Breath, and related lines.

The brand is particularly often associated with frost, resin, exceptional visuals, and interesting keeper phenotypes.

At the same time, In House Genetics is a brand for pheno-hunters. Not every plant from a pack needs to look identical or show exactly the same quality. With some lines in particular, the appeal lies in finding exceptional individual plants within a population.

In community discussions, there are also varying experiences regarding the stability of individual releases. While many growers report exceptional keepers, intersex characteristics or stronger phenotype variation are occasionally discussed with certain lines. Such reports cannot be applied to the entire assortment, but they are part of a realistic assessment of a breeder who works heavily with modern boutique and pheno-hunt genetics.

The significance of In House Genetics is therefore explained less by awards or marketing than by the large number of grow journals, keeper cuts, and crosses that trace back to IHG genetics.

Typical characteristics of In House Genetics

In House Genetics stands particularly for frosty, resin-rich photoperiodic hybrid genetics.

Many lines range aromatically between Grape, Berry, Cream, Gas, Kush, Cookies, Cherry, Candy, Garlic, Chem, and Dessert. The exact direction depends heavily on the respective genetic family.

Platinum lines are often particularly associated with resin and frost. Slurricane contributes grape, berry, and cream influences. Breath genetics move more strongly between Kush, Cookies, Cream, and Gas, while newer releases increasingly integrate Z, Candy, and modern U.S. flavor profiles.

Visually, many IHG lines are known for heavy trichome coverage and sometimes intense violet to dark colorations.

As a result, the brand particularly appeals to growers who are not just looking for a well-known strain name, but wish to specifically select phenotypes with unique visuals, resin structure, and terpene profiles.
